Pray for Daniel Vovak

December 29, 2010 Daniel Vovak's public statement on his Stage IV cancer
UPDATED: December 29, 2010; December 26, 2010

Dear friends, Republicans, and Marylanders:

For the last two weeks, I have had the rare privilege to be overwhelmingly loved by family and friends and to receive perfect care from the staff at Johns Hopkins/Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Shortly before Thanksgiving and through the weekend of the Maryland Republican Convention earlier this month, I experienced increased abdominal pain. I have since learned that I have an aggressive, but yet-to-be-specifically-diagnosed, Stage IV cancer.

Thankfully, my family and Alison have remained at my side, even as my dog, Newton, anxiously awaits my return. I anticipate not returning home for at least a month, though still before the 450 daffodils I planted (just three weeks ago) bloom in the spring. In the meanwhile, I ask that you pray for me and be more open with your loved ones, since I have learned there is no advantage to delaying kind words.

At this time (to preserve my strength), I request no phone calls, flowers, or visitors. Correspondence should be directed to Daniel Vovak through email at DanielVovak@gmail.com or to Daniel Vovak, Suburban Hospital. 8600 Old Georgetown Road. Room 3104. Bethesda, Maryland 20814. I will respond to correspondence when I am able, or as there are developments. May God bless us all!

Daniel Vovak, 38, is a ghostwriter, producer of The Blue Dress (a comedy about Bill & Monica), and an elected, at-large member of the Montgomery County Republican Central Committee. He is also the editor of Montgomery County Daily, a blog about Montgomery County, Maryland.

Maryland Political Year End Awards!

Biggest Star of 2010: - Congressman Elect Harris – MD - 1

Congressman Elect Andy Harris.  Andy ran in Maryland’s 1st Congressional district in a race many of the establishment Republicans worked against him.  Andy overcame the onslaught of the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun, decisively won his the 1st Congressional District.

Rising Star in Maryland Politics for 2011: Sam Hale and Chairman Alex Mooney

After much deliberation I feel both deserved this award.  Alex for winning the Chairman’s race.  Same Hale get’s this award because he represents the Future leader of Conservatives; Alex is the present leader for Conservatives in Maryland.

Destined for irrelevancy in 2011:  Tony Campbell, Chairman Baltimore County Republican Party

Tony managed for some reason to get elected Chairman of the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee.  Considering he headed up Republicans for Obama, need I say more?

Dan Zubairi

Most Irrelevant political hack of 2010: Dan Zubairi,

Do I really need to explain this one?

Biggest mover and shaker of 2010: Maryland Tea Partiers & Patriots

Maryland Tea Partiers were key in the pickups we had in the House of Delegates and the election of Andy Harris to the 1st Congressional District and the election of our New Chairman Alex Mooney.

Maryland’s Man of the Year:  David Marks

David Marks ran for the Baltimore County Council in a district that was won by Barrack Hussein Obama in 2008.  David put in long hours into his race, in knocking on doors and raising money.  He put his personal life on hold.  Last November to many stunned Democrats in Baltimore County David was elected to the County Council.

Good Job David.

Maryland’s Woman of the Year:  Katja Bullock

Katja Bullock ran the Montgomery County Campaign for Bob Ehrlich for Governor.  She had a thankless job.   She was attacked by arm-chair pundits for not knowing what she was doing.  Not once did Katja ever complain she just did her Job.  In addition she brought in new people into Republican Politics like yours truly and recruited a number of great candidates for races in Maryland this past year.

Worst Political Blog of 2010:  Salisbury News

If you read the blog you’d agree.

Best Campaign Website of 2010: Andy Harris for Congress

-      http://www.andyharris.com well designed, logical flow.

Worst Campaign Website of 2010: David Marks for Council

-      David Marks for Council - http://votedavidmarks.com  this sight is just ugly it looks like a kid did the site.  Granted the sight is informative the color scheme makes you want to run away from the website.    The site was slow and clunky.  Only good thing I can say about the website design is it didn’t have a ton of flash.

With all that said David did win his seat on the Baltimore County Council.  Congratulation again Councilman Marks

Best Republican Central Committee Website:  Cecil County Republican Central Committee

Site layout very well, very logically placed information.  Information on site is current and loads well on all browser types.  http://www.cecilgop.com  This is the Gold Standard for all County Central Committee Sites in Maryland.  Just a note for those who will brag about the coolness on the backend, sorry to say the back end can be very cool, however if the site is an eye sore, or hard to navigate you may as well of built the site in html 1.0.

Worst Republican Central Committee Website:  Prince George’s County Republican Central Committee

PG GOP website is one static page with a picture.  The sight is void of any information other than when the next meeting will be.  How about telling us where and what time?  Please invest in your website PG GOP!

Also to note all those counties that don’t have a website, you need a website.  You need one in this day and age.  A Facebook page isn’t a website.

ALERT: EXCLUSIVE: FCC Dems Narrowing Net Neutrality Gaps

FROM NATIONAL JOURNAL -

EXCLUSIVE: FCC Dems Narrowing Net Neutrality Gaps - Tech Daily Dose

EXCLUSIVE: FCC Dems Narrowing Net Neutrality Gaps
By David Hatch
December 19, 2010 6:04 PM

Share Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski is making progress in narrowing gaps with his two Democratic colleagues over his controversial plan to adopt sweeping new rules for the Internet, National Journal has learned. But with the talks very fluid, and differences remaining, there's still a possibility that the regulatory initiative could be pulled at the last minute from the agenda of Tuesday's commission meeting.

Genachowski needs the support of Michael Copps and Mignon Clyburn to approve his "network neutrality" proposal, which would create enforceable rules designed to protect the openness that is the Internet's hallmark. While both Copps and Clyburn are net neutrality advocates, they've complained that the chairman's framework cuts too many breaks for major telecommunications and cable providers of broadband. The two Republicans on the five-member commission remain staunchly opposed, arguing that the proposed rules amount to unnecessary government regulation of the Internet.

An FCC source familiar with the negotiations said progress is being made in three key areas: addressing concerns about wireless carriers, limiting Internet toll lanes and adding protections for a new online pricing model.

Responding to the complaint that the proposal, announced Dec. 1, would not bar discriminatory blocking of rival applications and services by wireless carriers. Genachowski appears willing to have the FCC monitor the situation over the next two years. Critics have noted that the proposed rules are more stringent for wireline carriers, even though Americans are rapidly gravitating to mobile connectivity.

Wireless carriers have endorsed (albeit grudgingly) the net neutrality plan, offering Genachowski critical industry support that can help dampen congressional criticism. They insist they need maximum flexibility in operating their networks due to capacity constraints, and won't block competitors.

If clear violations emerge, the agency would promulgate new protections down the road, the source said. Genachowski's side has argued during closed-door negotiations that since the wireless market is still developing, tougher rules shouldn't be applied now. Despite the progress, the source said the fate of the net neutrality proposal hinges on details to be ironed out over wireless service.

The FCC chairman also appears willing to limit the creation of toll lanes on the Internet for companies willing to pay for faster transmissions -- a structure known as "paid prioritization." As a result, the agency might specify scenarios under which such lanes would be barred because of concern about harm to consumers or competition. The chairman originally green lighted these arrangements in his announcement, raising worries that entities unable or unwilling to pay for priority treatment would be relegated to slow lanes.

Regarding a new form of Internet pricing that would charge customers based on the bandwidth they use, the chairman also may be ready to give some ground. Usage or metered pricing is allowable now, but most broadband providers have been hesitant to offer it because heavy Internet users would be slapped with higher fees -- a result that could draw brickbats from Washington. Genachowski, who endorsed the model as part of his net neutrality announcement, now appears receptive to placing some limits on it. For example, the FCC would prohibit a broadband provider from imposing exorbitant metered pricing fees on Netflix customers if the goal is to prompt them to switch to its less costly video service.

Montgomery County Parents call Senators Frosh and Madaleno

If your kids are in a Magnet Program in Montgomery County, Sen. Frosh and Madaleno want to charge you an extra busing fee.  However they don’t want to charge other kids that are bussed.  This is a tax on Smart Kids.  In addition to the Gas Tax Hike they want this year.
Call Sen. Brian Frosh at (301) 858-3102
Call Sen. Richard Madaleno  at (301) 858-3137
Tell them you don’t want to pay a higher gas tax and a Smart Kids Tax in busing fees for MONTGOMERY COUNTY Magnet Students only.  Yes, that is right this will only effect Montgomery County Families.

Maryland Conservatives Should Attend CPAC 2011

CPAC 2011 is just a short way off, February 10 – 12 in Washington, DC at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.  I will be in attendance and I encourage all the folks in Maryland that are Conservatives attend.  We in Maryland just elected the first Conservative Party Chairman in my lifetime I know it is also true for many who attended last week’s State Party Convention in Annapolis.
CPAC is a place where we Conservatives can network with other Conservatives.  We will need help from Conservatives from across the nation as the MD Legislature takes up their radical agenda.  We will need help from our allies to keep MD Legislators feet to the fire.  We will be able to call on them to donate to hold the line on Liberal Expansion in Maryland.
We as Conservatives drew a line, when Maryland County Central Committee members whom, overwhelmingly cast their votes for Alex Mooney, on both ballots last Saturday.  We now as grass roots conservatives need to attend CPAC so we can learn from other Conservatives on how to build up, our grass roots organizations which are lacking in Maryland.
In addition to CPAC we should also sign up for Leadership Institute schools, so that we can learn how to maximize the power of Fundraising and new media.  We will need to do both to win the battles that are yet to come in Maryland.

A New Era Dawns for Maryland Republicans!

Saturday, morning in Annapolis, Maryland, Central Committee Members from across the State of Maryland Overwhelmingly elected Sen. Alex Mooney to the position of Maryland Republican Party Chairman.  The election proves several points, one even in Montgomery County a Reagan Conservative can win.  Majority of the members of the MOCO GOP voted for Alex Mooney in both rounds of voting.  This was a pleasant surprise.

It is time we all come together as Republicans in Maryland and help Alex Mooney rebuild the MD GOP, raise funds, we need to a have a war chest 2x the size of the Democrats in Maryland.   In tandem let’s start identifying good Candidates for 2012, Congress and US Senate, and for 2014  County Council, County Executive, State Senate, House of Delegates, Comptroller, Attorney General and Governor.  Those of you who are interested in running say so NOW please don’t wait for 2014!  Let’s put the Maryland Democrats on offence now, NO, more should they enjoy free rides anywhere whether it be Takoma Park or Cumberland, we will engage them everywhere.

Furthermore we should run Republicans for the non-partisan mayoral and town council races in the many towns and cities across Maryland.  We need to start making the Democrats feel uncomfortable.   Right now Democrats operate in Maryland like crime lords in Mexico.

We need to now start writing op-eds in our local papers, establish blogs and unleash the raw power of Technology and old fashion Boots on the Ground!  We may not win all the battles however we will be setting the stage to win the War.   Victory for us will not be an easy one and we must all work together now.   The Democrats can pick us off one-by-one, however if we unite they can’t pick all of us off.

We must now start organizing, individuals need to start hosting coffee’s for the Party, meet the Candidate events.   We must all play a part in this endeavor, without us the Party Leaders can’t do it alone.  We must all sign up and pledge to raise money for the MD GOP.  I will pledge to raise $5000 over the next year.  (I am only 17 with limited contacts) however if we all raise $5000 or even as little as $1000, it will fill the bucket up very fast.  Without the little streams we don’t have the mighty river!

So in closing my fellow Republicans Moderates and Conservatives let’s get on our feet and start raising money for the Party in 2011 as we celebrate the central of the Greats Post War President Ronald Reagan let us re-energize the Maryland GOP.  Let us all hold small centennial celebrations in our homes for the MD GOP!

The Case for Alex Mooney

On December 10th & 11th the Republican faithful will gather in Annapolis for the Maryland State Republican Convention.   This is an important convention hence this follows the disappointing loss of Gov. Ehrlich in the rematch with Gov. Tax, Barrow and Spend O’Malley.

Alex is the only Candidate in the field who has a proven track record of turning things around.  When Alex first ran for State Senate many said “he can’t win” he did win then and continued to win, until this past year when he fell victim to the Washington Post and George Soros attack machine.

We must look to the future for new leadership in the Maryland GOP.  Mary Kane is a great lady, she is very accomplished, and might be able to do a good job as GOP Chair.  However Sen. Alex Mooney would be better choice.  This isn’t against Mary’s abilities; it is more looking at the Future in Maryland.  Sen. Mooney has worked with Conservative Icons like Morton Blackwell, David Keene and Paul Weyrich to name a few.  Sen. Mooney understands the nuts and bolts of building an organization from the ground up.  The Maryland GOP has sputtered over the past years like a ship without a rudder.

Alex would be that rudder, that MD GOP so desperately needs.  We need to climb out of the deep whole that we find ourselves in today.   Alex understands rebuilding the party isn’t a two year or four year plan it is a continuing process that doesn’t end.  He understands the need to conduct voter registration drives during the off years.  He understands that you need to have candidates for all offices from Governor to Dog Catcher.  We should never again have a vacant State Wide slot open as we did this past year.  Alex understands we as Republicans need to engage the Democrats at every level, challenge them in every county, every township, no more giving the democrats a free pass so that they can spend their campaign war chests in closes races against Republicans.  The Democrats need to be made felt uncomfortable.

These are the Reasons Red Montgomery Blog has strongly endorsed Sen. Alex Mooney for Maryland GOP Chair.  I encourage GOP Central Committee members across the state Vote next Saturday for the Future and cast their Vote for Alex Mooney.

Rendezvous with Destiny: Ronald Reagan and the Campaign That Changed America

This is a must read!  I just got my copy Thursday I can’t put this book down.  What book you ask it is Craig Shirley’s book Rendezvous with Destiny: Ronald Reagan and the Campaign That Changed America.  For those of my generations that only knew of President Reagan from History Class either in High School or College this book is for you!  This book gives you the real facts about President Reagan; pose to the ones pseudo-intellectual in academia whom portrayed President Reagan as a war monger.  This book you can separate the Fact and Fiction (fiction is what you were taught in HS History Class) about President.

In this book you will learn about how President Reagan proved peace through strength, President Reagan didn’t want the status quo of Détente.  Most of my generation will learn that what our History Teachers in HS and in College basically lied about the greatness of President Reagan.  Order the book at Amazon.com, http://www.amazon.com/Rendezvous-Destiny-Campaign-Changed-America/dp/1933859555#_

A Look at the Future of the Republican Party of Maryland

The other day in the Baltimore Sun, Mary Kane, Candidate for Lt. Governor this past election cycle proclaimed that Maryland won’t elect another Republican for forty years.  With all due respect to Mary Kane, whom I consider to be a friend, she is mistaken.  It wasn’t too long ago the national media The Washington Post, New York Times, LA Times and other leftist media in 2006 and 2008 how the GOP was a National Party NO MORE, and wrote the obituary for the GOP.  What a difference four years makes, this last election, we took back the house, majority of the governorship and state legislatures across the country.  In addition we won senate races in IL, an d PA two states that John McCain and President George W. Bush lost in 2000, 2004 and 2008.  We haven’t won Pennsylvania since George H. W. Bush won in 1988.

With that said, I don’t think the Maryland GOP is dead in the water.  We need to regroup and find a candidate today as well as a MD GOP Chairman that can inspire the MD GOP base, raise money, and with a positive agenda, educate the electorate.  We need someone who is charismatic, inspirational, and articulate someone who can handle the media (by pass them and talk directly to the people).  We need to have a Chairman that will fill every slot on the ballot in 2014; we can’t have a state wide race without fielding a candidate for all top three slots.  The old Baltimore County GOP in the 60’s thru the early 80’s ran full slates.  Maryland Republicans need to run in herds not solo acts.  With that said we need to promote quality candidates who are credible.  We can’t just get behind anyone who has the money to pay a filing fee to run.  In Maryland’s 16th district we had three good candidates and one not so good.  However none wanted to run on a slate as a result they all lose and spent about the same amount of money.  It costs the same amount to put one name on a sign, as it does to do four names on one sign.   The Democrats are masterful with this concept, they run in herds and kill us every time, they all sing from the same song sheet music.  As a result they speak with one voice.  We need to adopt the lefts tactics NOT THEIR IDEAS.  We need to have a platform for State GOP candidates.  We can no longer run as Democrat Light and expect to win, we have been trying this playbook since the 1980s, and how has it worked for us?  We need to have someone run against every Democrat.  Not one democrat should be running unopposed.  The truth be known even in Blue Maryland more people agree with our views, than the radical agenda of the Left.   As President Reagan stated at the 1975 CPAC Conference in Washington, DC “…raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues…”

One Republicans need to adopt a no compromise stance.  Democrats’ idea of compromise is when we cave in to them.  No, more shall we given, because we want to be liked in the press and have them say nice things about us. Face it in Maryland, the Baltimore Sun nor the Washington Post, will never say anything positive about a Republican.  Print media is a Dinosaur and they are headed the way of the Dinosaur.  We need to make effective use of New Media as Morton Blackwell stated NEW MEDIA is the single greatest breakthrough in political campaigns since Direct Mail.   We need to use it to mobilize our team.

We need to increase voter registrations, how many of us have seen on off years Democrats at the supermarket registering voters?   We need to get into college Campuses around Maryland and fund College Republican organizations to recruit new Republicans to the GOP.  We are the party of ideas, without us there are no new Ideas; Fact if it weren’t for Republicans Maryland wouldn’t have the University of Maryland’s Flagship campus in College Park, BWI Airport (Friendship Airport) would never have been built, nor would the Baltimore and Washington Beltways or the John Hansen Highway, or the ICC!  All of these milestones in Maryland were shepherded by Republican Governors.  Democrats in the legislature Opposed Friendship Airport, the Beltways, John Hansen Highway and the ICC!  Maryland Moves forward when we have a Republican Governor.  Democrats have done nothing but squander the treasury on their special interests like the Big Unions, Big Green Lobby and NEA - AFT!

Yes, we had a loss this past election day, in Maryland, time for grieving is over the loss is over, we need to move forward now take action if we want to win in 2014!  The Democrats start running the day after election day, while we wait until the spring of election year to decide to run.  We need to go and spend the next three years educating voters, offering an alternative to Tax and Spend politics of O’Malley – Brown and all important start fundraising now.

My advice to all legislative district chairs for the GOP.  Create a PAC for your district, start voter registration drives, raise money for the PACs you set up.  Find the unregistered voters in your district; bring over the democrats who are tired of paying high taxes.  We need to reach out and educate voters in becoming Republicans, not adopted the failed policies of Democrats to beg and plead with them to join us.  We need to win the day with better common sense ideas.  The days of Connie Morella, Mac Mathias Republicans are over.  No, more can we walk like Democrats and expect them to vote for us, it doesn’t work.  We need to offer stark contrasts between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party in Maryland.

If Blue Massachusetts and New Jersey can elect Republicans like Scott Brown and Chris Christie surely we can do the same in Blue Maryland elect an EJ Pipkin, Larry Hogan, Nancy Jacobs or a countless number of other Republicans in Maryland.  To take a page from PM Winston Churchill’s speech about fighting the NAZIs, we too must fight Democrats everywhere in Maryland all the way from the Cumberland Gap to the shores of the Chesapeake Bay.  From the Mason-Dixon Line to St, Mary’s County, we can’t give up and roll over, Churchill didn’t let the NAZIs over run Great Britain, we can’t let the Democrats over run Maryland.

Why is State Senator Brian Frosh Lying about Jerry Cave?

Brian frosh has been representing MD-16 since 1994.  Over the past 16 years Brian has never fought for District 16 and Montgomery County, unlike his predecessor Sen. Howard Denis who was in the mold of beloved Rep. Connie Morella.

Frosh has rolled over for the special interests in Baltimore and Annapolis at the detriment to Montgomery County.  We have seen our property taxes go through the roof over the past 16 years; new taxes on Cell Phones (highest in the state), county permits and fees have gone up as well.

One of the reasons for our taxes being too high other than we have a county council that spends money that would make a drunken sailor blush.  Montgomery County back in 1992 back when Howard Denis was our Senator in 16, we got 22 cents back for every dollar we put it.  22 cents wasn’t great however you don’t need to be a mathematician to know that 22 cents back is better than .18 cents back, Brian why have we lost 4 cents under your watch in district 16?

Now if that was the worst thing Brian has done in Annapolis it wouldn’t be so bad however, After Hurricane Isabel in 2003 Brian Frosh blamed Pepco for the power loss.   Brian frosh has a personal distained for free market capitalism, he is responsible for so many regulations I can’t even list them all.  Brian Frosh supports an increase in the State Gas Tax (which is one of the highest in the country).  Brian Frosh supports the radical environmentalist agenda.  He opposed the ICC, he supports the Purple, which will displace businesses and cause increase gridlock.

We in Montgomery County have one of the worst commutes in the country; Mass Transit isn’t the answer to our traffic problems.  If you look at the Reason Foundation (non-partisan think tank) they conclude Mass Transit is just one part of congestion relief.  Brian opposes anything that smacks of innovation, all he wants to do is ban cars, and he supports a London Style tax on drivers.  He doesn’t want to try things like building more roads, using hot lanes, widening roads or the use of over passes and under passes to better the flow of traffic.

Now if the above wasn’t enough reason to FIRE Brian Frosh Tuesday here is one last thing, he Opposed Jessica’s Law.  Brian Frosh has been lying about his support of the law. Furthermore, he treated the victims in a demeaning manner. Just this reason alone is enough to not vote for Brian Forsh Tuesday.  However sadly there is more Brian Frosh supports giving Illegal Aliens Drivers Licenses and unemployment benefits.

Now Brian Frosh when he can't run on his record what does he do, start telling lies about Jerry Cave his challenger this Tuesday.  The fact is Brian Frosh is too radical for District 16 and our families.  Frosh is in the back pocket of some the most extremist leftist groups in the State of Maryland and the Country here are a few of them,   SEIU, CASA de Maryland PAC, ACORN, MMFA, George Soros, MoveOn, ACT UP and every other radical group out there.  Brian Frosh hasn’t met a Leftist Radical he disagreed with.
So, next Tuesday for the Safety of our Children Vote for Jerry Cave for State Senate in District 16.
